Back up your stamp album without creating an account

Inkpass keeps your album on your iPhone and gives you three ways to back it up: your private iCloud, a Backup link you save in Notes, and a JSON file. None of them goes to an Inkpass server, because the app does not run one that stores your data.

Where is my album stored?

On the phone. Your stamps, statuses (Been, Lived, Want to go), years, visit dates, notes, regions, cities, saved friends and settings sit in the app's own storage. Nothing waits on a login, so the album opens in airplane mode.

If iCloud is enabled for the app, a copy is mirrored to your own iCloud key-value storage after each change. Apple holds it in your account. Inkpass cannot read it.

Which backup should I use?

Use two. iCloud covers the everyday case of a lost or broken phone, and a link or file in a place you control covers the case of iCloud being off or unavailable.

How does iCloud backup work?

Go to Me, Settings, then Backup and restore. The iCloud row shows whether backup is on and when it last saved. Tap Save now to force a copy, or leave it alone: changes are saved a moment after you make them. If iCloud is off for your Apple ID, the screen says so and points you to the Backup link instead.

On a new phone with the same Apple ID, the welcome screen offers to restore your album and shows how many stamps it found. Tap Restore, or Start fresh.

What is a Backup link?

It is your whole album in one private link. Create it in Backup and restore, save it in Notes or send it to yourself, and open it later on any iPhone with Inkpass. The link opens the app only. The web page never displays it.

Anyone who holds the link can read your album, so treat it like a password. Unlike a friend link, a Backup link carries everything: statuses, years, notes and friends. When you open one, you choose to merge it with the current album or replace it.

  1. Open Me, then Settings, then Backup and restore.
  2. Tap Create backup link.
  3. Save the message in Notes or send it to yourself.
  4. On the new phone, open the link and choose Merge or Replace.

Can I export a file?

Yes. Export as file (JSON) writes the album to a file you can store in Files or send to yourself. Import from file reads it back. If a file is not an Inkpass backup, the app tells you instead of changing anything.

A backup file reports its size in plain words, for example a backup with 24 stamps and 3 friends, so you can check it before importing.

How do I delete everything?

Me, then Settings, then Delete all data. It removes the stamps, friends, notes and settings from the phone and from your iCloud copy. It cannot be undone. There is no copy on a server to ask us to remove.

Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID and stays. Cancel or change it in iPhone Settings, under your Apple ID and Subscriptions. The privacy page lists every place data can live.

What should I do before changing phones?

Five steps cover the move, and the first two take a minute.

  1. On the old phone, open Me, Settings, then Backup and restore, and tap Save now.
  2. Export the JSON file to Files as a second copy.
  3. Set up the new iPhone with the same Apple ID and install Inkpass.
  4. On the welcome screen tap Restore, and compare the stamp count it reports with what you expect.
  5. If you had Pro, tap Restore purchases. The subscription belongs to your Apple ID, not to the album.

What does a backup cover?

Friends you saved from links stay on your phone, with the date of their map. A backup includes them. The free plan keeps your 3 latest friends, and Pro keeps all. See compare maps for how those links work.

A backup holds the album: stamps, statuses, years, visits, notes, friends and settings. It does not hold your subscription, which lives with Apple, and it does not refresh a friend's map. For that, use Ask for an update on the friend's page.

If you open a Backup link on a phone that already has stamps, Merge keeps both sets and Replace swaps your album for the one in the link. Export a file first if you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions

Does Inkpass need an account to back up?

No. iCloud uses the Apple ID already on your phone, and the Backup link and JSON file need nothing at all.

Can Inkpass or its developer see my album?

No. The album lives on your device and in your private iCloud. Backup links and files go where you put them, never to an Inkpass server.

How do I move to a new iPhone?

Install Inkpass, sign in to iCloud and tap Restore on the welcome screen. Without iCloud, open your saved Backup link or import the JSON file.

Is a Backup link safe to share?

No, keep it private. It holds your whole album, so anyone with the link can read it. Friend links are different and carry only countries and a name.

Can I make a backup in airplane mode?

Yes for a Backup link or a JSON file, since the app builds them on the phone. The iCloud copy needs a connection to sync.
